Review: Enclave by Ann Aguirre

Title: Enclave
Author: Ann Aguirre
Age Group: Young Adult
My Rating: 5/5

Synopsis

New York City has been decimated by war and plague, and most of civilization has migrated to underground enclaves, where life expectancy is no more than the early 20's. When Deuce turns 15, she takes on her role as a Huntress, and is paired with Fade, a teenage Hunter who lived Topside as a young boy. When she and Fade discover that the neighboring enclave has been decimated by the tunnel monsters—or Freaks—who seem to be growing more organized, the elders refuse to listen to warnings. And when Deuce and Fade are exiled from the enclave, the girl born in darkness must survive in daylight, in the ruins of a city whose population has dwindled to a few dangerous gangs. As the two are guided by Fade’s long-ago memories, they face dangers, and feelings, unlike any they’ve ever known.

 My Review:

I read a review about this book and was curious about how it would play out so of course I had to read it. I Love how well written it is. I was drawn into this post apocaliptic world very quickly. I think Deuce is a very strong heroin and I love that in a book. I this book was different because of the "Freaks" they are essentually zombies that have mutated. Horrible looking things that stink and eat flesh. I found myself staying up late at night reading this book and was alittle scared ( I know, Im such a whimp) but I had to get to a part that wasnt scary before I could stop lol. Not so say that this book is scary, its really not. But the dark tunnels of the Enclave and the Freaks is just a little creepy at times. I devoured this book! The world Ann paints for this is really detailed and just when I was learning the Enclave and getting use to the dark, damp underground tunnels the all of a sudden Deuce and Fade her partner are thrown into this topside world where the sun is scary to Deuce who has heard all her life that it will burn your flesh off. And that the rain is acid and will melt you. But Deuce is learning that the leaders of the Enclave didnt always tell the truth. This was not the first lie she caught them in. But now that she is exciled she cant go back and tell anyone , even her old friends that the leaders of the Enclave are lying to them. Whats a butt kicking heroin to do..... Oh yeah, kick butt!

This was a great and exciting read and I recommend it to anyone who loves Dystopian and anyone who loved the Hunger Games. Not that its like Hunger Games but it does at times have a similer feel. Its an awesome read!!! You HAVE to read this book!!!

5/5 Stars!!!!!
